Kunal: I have a question related to Google-related searches results ( the ones that appear in the end of the page results, related to the keyword used for the research)

When a user type a keyword in Google in the end of the page there is this sort of "box" containing the "related searches to + keyword".

Is it possible to remove some of the results of the Google related searches?

Sometime the research for a brand show also in the Google relates searches results a competitor and we would like to avoid this things.

Which are the activities we have to implement in order to prevent a competitor of a brand appearing in the Google related searches results when searching for a brand? Is it possible to eliminate it?

Waiting for an answer, thanks a lot
Quest. Sujay: I dont think it is possible. This is purely a call of Google.........this probably means that your query and the competitor brand name are so much related and equally popular and/or both terms being searched by common users........

these are the reasons why Google shows the competitor name in related searches.......

Difficult to eliminate it.......because it is not in your control.......it is actually the user's behavior that is making Google do it.....

Sunjay: Making your client understand could be a little difficult. Here are a couple of tips or a couple of things that I would have said:
You are big and so is your competitor
You are active in SEO etc and so is your competitor
You are being searched big time and so is your competitor
You are very much relevant to the search term and so is your competitor
Google's vision is to offer a varied yet relevant results to the users.

You might have a better product, you might be priced competitively, you might be offering better services but for Google, similar (if not same) things are offered by your competitor too. If you are good on these points, your CTR and Conversions would he higher which would also contribute to your higher rank.

But Google does not look into all this (primarily and alone) but also looks at the fact that many users who visited your website also visited your competitor's website and vice versa......which is why when you search with REDIFF, you will also see SIFY and Indiatimes ......and vice versa....

Also, there is a limit to which we can fool around with the SERP but this particular feature is not SERP, isnt it?
And lastly, these features are beyond the control of any SEO in this world and that includes the SEO of your competitor as well....

For the SEOMOZ thing, Rand is great and I love SEOMOZ too but they are not GOD........I am making a strong statement here but I would like to say that please trust your own judgement, experience, logics and instincts too......I advice my colleagues that for getting answers on any question whether its SEO or just life......before going to any other website/blog/forum/person, just spend some time and pen down what you think about it and what is your personal answer (I am sure most of you would find great answers) and then probably, ask or refer someone for fine tuning....

Question Rajan; One of my clients is based in France but providing services all over the world. Suppose I wanna check if my web site's queries pops to the top, should I use Google.fr or what? Coz not only targeting visitors from France but all over the world. Please help me.
Ans Madan:Yes.. first check with google.fr, it would be better to concentrate on Local visitors .. i.e France.

Any suggestions please paste here.

Sanjay: Hi Rajan, yes of course but we are not targeting France alone but global audience. Taking this into consideration, I hope I need to check any of five major countries Google, such as Google.fr, Google.com, Google.hk, Google.co.in. Google.uk......Okay, If it doesn't help is it advisable to use Google.com along with Google.fr? any ideas guys?

Mahi: It depends on how competitive your market is. In a hypercompetitive market, it might be difficult to rank for a non-geographic specific search ie, 'web design' instead of 'web design india', for example.

In this case what you could do is, especially if the website has never been performed an SEO for, to target local audience. If what you are offering is web design, optimize your site with page titles that say web design company france, instead of broadly leaving it as web design. You could also do one more thing - ask your client the most important or profitable markets for them. Then add those locations as well to your onsite optimization factors such as page titles. So, this will look as this: Web design company France, UK, Germany, for example.

While it might not make sense that you optimize all content pages across the site with those geographic specific terms, you could do this for your About Us page. In there, you can mention and stress on various countries that you cater to within the content itself. Remember, you might wisely want to target most important markets for the business, if you do not want to go by the first advise i suggested which is to target locally to begin with.

Quest Nishant. If I optimize my title tag with more than 65 char, what will happen? Coz I will have to get my home page ranking for more than 35 Keywords. Please help.TY.
Mick: All that'll happen is that the tag will get cut off in the search results, although I'm not sure you should be optimising one page for so many keywords.
Raj:
For Google, Home page title must be between 60-65 char, so, it gives you weight-age and importance in SERP rankings. It is not possible that you target all 35 keywords on the home page of your site. You can target other keywords onto other pages of the site (internal pages of the site). But make sure that title tag should be not more than 65-67 chars.

Mayank: Ideally, no web page is to be targeted for more than 2 keyword phrases. You can't have one page rank for all the keywords you want.

Choose a primary keyword and a secondary keyword per page. Go by that.

Quest Raj:
On one of my employer's websites, we are discontinuing sales of about
400 products, which means these pages are 'going away.'  My current
plan is to 301 redirect them all to similar product pages or the
homepage for those products that have no equivalent.  My question is;

1-Does this look bad from the SE standpoint?
2-Will this cause long download time for the dynamic pages where we
are implementing the redirects?

We would not be using htaccess but rather case statements in ASP.net
on dynamic pages which look for certain parameters in order to decide
if the page should be redirected or not.  So for example;

category.aspx?Pid=X
productpage.aspx?prid=X
parttypeID=pttid=X

Each of these dynamic pages would have case statements that will 301
redirect if the parameters return certain values (ie. the products
that we are no longer carrying).

What are your thoughts?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Ans Manoj:

301 redirect are not bad for Search Engines how your case and implementation are important factors while selecting redirects type and please also note that it would not increase the time response of server if your server settings are well optimized for such redirection.

In the scenario you mentioned here I would suggest that you should develop a separate page which can be used to give the message that the product you are searching are no more available on the portal, and additive if you can manage the dynamic list of the other products or categories (of same interest) basis on the parameter passed on the page which has been discontinued and redirects all those pages to this page rather redirecting to home page. For those products which are discontinued due their upgraded version of availability redirect on those pages however also good to display a small Alert like box to show the user that you have been moved on this page from X-page due to latest availability of this product. if user are landing this page (new product page) directly your Alert box will not be publish in this case. I hope you may have got my suggestion and point of view and this approach is not only Good for Search Engine but will also not confused your visitor. In other case if they will land on the home page while expecting certain products they will quit and you may have high bouncing rate on your site.

Ramesh:

1. First of all it affects in search engine point of view, because you
are permanently redirecting for 400 pages.

2. My solutions is:

First redirect the 200 pages to the similar product pages in the first
two week (see the search engine results page for any changes)

Second: Next 200 pages redirect to home page(If you are not getting
any damage in search results, then implement the second step)
